SAT for international students: registration and test-day checks

Outside the US, the SAT base registration is US $111: $68 registration plus a $43 international fee. Choose a date and available center, check the ID rules for the country where you will test, and prepare an approved Bluebook device before paying for travel.

Country-specific checks

Search College Board’s test-center finder for the exact date. A listed center does not guarantee an available seat, and past center counts are not current availability. The same base fee applies in these countries; additional charges can depend on location or registration timing.

Know the total before paying

The base is US $111. Late registration adds $38. Certain listed international centers add a $24 test-center fee. Currency conversion or a card issuer’s charge can change the amount on your statement; College Board’s listed prices are in US dollars.

Changing the center costs $34. Changing the date requires cancellation and a new registration, with the applicable $34 regular or $44 late cancellation charge. Review the checkout total and current policy rather than assuming the base fee covers every change.

There is no broadly available international-student fee waiver for non-US citizens living abroad. Eligible low-income US citizens abroad can receive waiver benefits through the specified process, including removal of the international fee for their free tests.

Use the worldwide deadline correctly

Weekend dates and registration deadlines are the same for US and international students. They close at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time, so check the time-zone conversion before making a last-day payment.

For November 7, 2026, regular registration closes October 23 and the late/change deadline is October 27. For December 5, the corresponding dates are November 20 and November 24. The full date table includes spring 2027.

A deadline does not guarantee a seat. Search your first and second-choice centers early. If you need College Board device lending, register and request it at least 30 days before testing, earlier than the ordinary registration deadline.

Register with matching identity information

Use your own My SAT account. Enter your legal name to match the accepted ID you will bring, choose the date and center, upload the required photo, and review the details before payment.

Bring an original, unexpired photo ID meeting College Board’s requirements. Digital images, photocopies, and a name that does not match the registration can prevent admission. Students 21 or older need government-issued photo ID.

When testing outside your home country, bring a valid passport. Do not assume a school ID accepted at home will be accepted while testing abroad. Read the full official ID page for the country-specific requirements and the English-text requirement.

Prepare the testing device and ticket

Digital SAT testing is supervised at the center; downloading Bluebook does not let you take it at home. Use an approved Windows or Mac device, iPad, or school-managed Chromebook, with the current supported operating system. Personal Chromebooks and phones are not approved.

Complete exam setup 1–5 days before your weekend test on the testing device and obtain the admission ticket. Charge the device, bring its permitted charger and required ID, and use the arrival instructions on the ticket. The Bluebook guide covers installation and setup separately.

Approved accommodations can involve different timing or formats. Arrange them through College Board’s process before testing; a center cannot simply grant an accommodation because you arrive with a school document.

Plan score delivery for the application

Check each institution’s policy: some accept self-reported results first, others need an official report by a deadline, and some do not use SAT scores at all. International applicants may also have English-proficiency requirements; an SAT result does not automatically replace them.

The first four SAT reports are free if ordered within nine days after the test; otherwise or beyond those four, current additional reports cost $15 each. Decide whether to use the free sends by reading the recipient’s policy rather than sending blindly to every college.

Use the score release schedule and the institution’s last accepted test date. Test date, score release, and receipt deadline are different milestones. Allow time for all three when choosing between November and December.
