SAT scholarships in India: discount and tuition are separate
The India Scholars Program has two distinct benefits: income-based SAT registration discounts and potential merit-cum-need tuition awards at participating universities. A total score of 1300 can make an income-eligible student a scholarship candidate; it does not guarantee an award or admission.
Who can receive the registration discount
The official program specifies India residents in Class XI or XII. The discount is 90% for annual family income below ₹8 lakh, or 50% for income between ₹8 lakh and ₹15 lakh. Apply through the route linked on that page before registering for your sitting.
Follow the current evidence and voucher instructions. Do not assume eligibility from citizenship, a school label, or a promised SAT score. A discount saves exam-registration money; it is not cash paid toward university living costs.

What 1300 means for a tuition award
College Board says income-eligible India residents with a total score of at least 1300 may qualify at participating universities. It describes full-tuition awards through graduation for the below-₹8-lakh income group. Universities select recipients who also meet their other admission requirements.
Treat 1300 as the program's eligibility benchmark, not a published guarantee that every qualifying applicant gets funding. Tuition coverage does not automatically include accommodation, food, travel, or other fees.
Check the university before you build a budget
Follow College Board's current participating-university link, then open the chosen university's admissions and scholarship pages. Check whether your program participates, the award deadline, the required income evidence, the SAT reporting method, and renewal conditions.
Do not reuse an old list as proof of current participation. Ask the institution to clarify any mismatch between its current policy and an older scholarship announcement before you rely on funding.
Keep a small application checklist
Save the voucher approval, SAT registration, official score, scholarship submission, and award decision separately. A university admission offer and a scholarship decision may arrive as different documents.

- Obtain the registration voucher using the current application route.
- Check the discount appears before completing SAT payment.
- Confirm the university and course participate in the tuition-award scheme.
- Submit the full university application, scholarship evidence, and required score report by their deadlines.
- Read the written award's coverage and renewal conditions before deciding it makes the degree affordable.
For scholarships outside India
Read the destination institution's international-student award page separately. The India Scholars benchmark does not establish a US merit scholarship, an Ivy League funding rule, or a Canadian tuition award.
Record the amount, whether it is annual or one-time, who can apply, and what renews it. A phrase such as 'scholarships available' is insufficient for a tuition budget.
