### Question counts by section

Reading and Writing uses multiple-choice questions. Math includes both multiple-choice and student-produced responses.

| Section | Questions per module | Time per module | Presented total | Scored total |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reading and Writing | 27 (25 scored, 2 pretest) | 32 minutes | 54 | 50 |
| Math | 22 (20 scored, 2 pretest) | 35 minutes | 44 | 40 |
| Both sections | Four modules | 134 minutes | 98 | 90 |

### Which questions are experimental?

You cannot identify the pretest questions from the screen. A question that feels unfamiliar or unusually difficult is not evidence that it is unscored. Answer every item to the best of your ability.

Two unscored questions in each module means eight across four modules. That count explains why “44 Math questions” and “40 scored Math questions” can both be correct when they refer to different things.

### How many correct answers do I need?

There is no universal number-correct target for a particular digital SAT score. The scoring model uses the questions and your response pattern across both modules. Use official practice scores to monitor your level; use question counts to plan pacing, not to invent a conversion table.

The standard digital SAT has 134 minutes of testing and a 10-minute break: 2 hours 24 minutes once testing begins. Arrival, check-in, and instructions add time; approved accommodations or a School Day essay can change the schedule.
- **[How is the SAT scored?](https://1600.now/sat-faq/how-is-the-sat-scored)**

SAT Reading and Writing and Math each receive a 200–800 score; adding them gives a 400–1600 total. Digital scoring uses responses across both modules and question characteristics, so a correct-answer count alone cannot determine the score.
