How to Get a 1000 on the SAT

A 1000 SAT can be 500 Reading and Writing plus 500 Math, or an uneven split such as 460 + 540. Begin with the section where missed questions become solvable when you remove the timer. A 1000 is a scaled score, not 50% correct.

1000 is at the 47th percentile of SAT takers and the 48th percentile nationally (all U.S. 11th and 12th graders). Source and comparison groups, checked October 5, 2026.

Turn an 870 baseline into a specific target

From 870 to 1000, the gap is 130 points. If your split is 400 Reading and Writing and 470 Math, one possible target is 480 + 520. That arithmetic allocates the work; it does not prove the gain is available in 29 days.

Take one unused official Bluebook test under your actual testing conditions. Re-solve each missed question without timing or explanations. Separate questions you can now solve from those that still need a lesson. Start with one skill from the second group, then rehearse it under time.

A foundation session you can repeat

For a 35-minute session, spend 10 minutes learning one rule, 15 minutes solving a small untimed set, and 10 minutes correcting and retrying. Stop adding questions when you cannot explain the previous miss.

  1. Math: solve . Subtract 7 before dividing; . Substitute to check .
  2. Reading and Writing: identify a subject and its main verb before choosing punctuation. A comma alone cannot join two independent clauses.
  3. The next day, answer a new question using the same rule. Success on a memorized example is not the check.

Use 29 days without turning them into a promise

Days 1–3 establish a baseline and two practice priorities. Use most of the next three weeks for those skills, with a short timed check after each repair. Reserve the last several days for one fresh full test, its review, and device preparation.

If your score remains near 870, retain the skills you learned and revise the target or test date. Studying for a month does not create a fixed score gain. A scholarship paying a particular dollar amount also does not imply a 1000 SAT requirement; read that program's actual eligibility rules.

Questions about 1000

What percentile is a 1000 SAT?

College Board's table, checked October 5, 2026, places 1000 at the 47th percentile of SAT takers (students who graduated in the past three school years) and the 48th percentile nationally, a model of all U.S. 11th and 12th graders.

Is a 1000 the same as getting half the SAT right?

No. The total is on a 400–1600 scaled range. Correct-answer counts do not translate into a fixed percentage or score.

Can I reach 1000 without solving the hardest questions?

You can plan around better accuracy on foundational and medium questions, but no particular subset guarantees 1000. Use a fresh official practice result to assess readiness.
